Social Studies Content Standards
Graduates of the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn School District will:
Identify and analyze geographical and cultural features of local and community, state, nation and world.
Develop an awareness, appreciation, and acceptance of cultural diversity.
Know the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
Understand how governing groups grant and distribute power and responsibility.
Understand the dynamics of relationships in family, community, state, national, and global settings.
Understand the relationship between people and the environment.
Effectively use economic reasoning to make consumer choices.
Understand how a person’s history and background shapes that person as an individual and as a citizen.
Understand basic physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of people.
Be aware of contemporary world events including changing technology.
Critically interpret, analyze, and investigate opposing viewpoints.
Analyze and interpret significant events, patterns, and themes of history in local, state, national, and global settings.
