🍕 It’s been a delicious week in Advanced Foods! 🍕
Students have been diving into the world of pizza — learning about the history of pizza, different types of dough, and popular pizza styles from around the world. This week, they put their knowledge into action in the kitchen lab by creating their own homemade pizzas!
From Hawaiian and pepperoni to stuffed crust and some very creative combinations, students had a great time experimenting with flavors and showing off their cooking skills. It was awesome to see their teamwork and creativity come to life in the kitchen.

HMS was well represented in the War Eagle Conference Honor Band hosted by Gehlen Catholic. There were two honor bands, one for middle school students and another for high school students, and they both performed a fabulous concert after a full day of rehearsing.

We had a great week celebrating National FFA Week! Throughout FFA Week, members were active in many different activities. This year, the officer team offered a scavenger hunt throughout the High School. Members also had the opportunity to read to Elementary students. On Teacher Tuesday, they hosted a Teacher Appreciation Breakfast for the High School staff. On Friday, members finished out the week by participating in High-Five Friday, Grab The Mic Challenge at lunch, and Ag Olympics with the high school student body.
We also want to take the time to celebrate Kamrynn Visser-Jennings, who was elected as the 2026-2027 NW Iowa District Reporter. On February 7th, Kamrynn went through multiple interviews as well as a knowledge quiz. She was then balloted, where she competed on March 11. At District Convention, Kamrynn had to give a 2 minute speech in front of two delegates from each school in the Northwest District, where she was then elected. Throughout the year, Kamrynn will travel around the state representing HMS in many different competitions and public events, including the State Fair. Congratulations, Kamrynn, we are very proud of you!

The Second Grade welcomed Anna, a dental hygienist, to talk about healthy habits when it comes to their teeth. February was Dental Awareness Month, so Anna shared ways to keep our teeth healthy and clean, as well as what to expect at a dental visit. She had some fun facts about teeth and even shared some of her dogs’ teeth that they have lost. Thanks, Anna, for sharing with us!
